Mills Milk Drive To Reduce Emissions

Back to news

Mills Milk drive to reduce emissions

One of Scotland’s largest milk doorstep delivery companies is plugging into a reduced carbon footprint with their first all-electric delivery vehicles. Family business Mills Milk recently procured some new Maxus E-Deliver3 dropside vehicles, specially built with bespoke modifications for delivering milk to doorsteps across Ayrshire. The vehicles were supplied by specialists Vehicles4Work and funded through Volkswagen Financial Services Fleet on a full maintenance contract hire.

Whilst harking back to the days when electric milk floats were a common sight across Scotland’s towns and villages, Mills Milk’s new electric delivery vehicles have a range of up to 213 miles* enabling deliveries from their Largs headquarters to homes in locations such as Kilmarnock.

And after successfully running them, Mills are planning to transition more of their fleet from diesel to electric across Scotland.

Mills Milk Director Adam Mills said: “There is no doubt that choosing electric over diesel for these new vans has significantly reduced not only our emissions but our running costs too. The excellent range is ideally suited for our delivery runs to most of the towns we supply to, and we’ve even had positive feedback from customers who’ve noticed how much quieter our early morning deliveries are. These first electric vans in our fleet have given us confidence to look at transitioning more of our fleet across our operations in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Inverness, and we look forward to further reducing emissions throughout 2023.”

Patrick Kane of Kilmarnock-based Vehicles4Work, added: “Whilst more and more businesses want to go electric, it’s crucial to get the right vehicle, with the right specification and supported by the right funding. Every business model is unique and we were delighted to be able to work with Maxus along with our specialist bodybuilders and VWFS Fleet to create a bespoke vehicle and package that would deliver for Mills Milk and their customers. Seeing these first vans delivering milk to homes and businesses across Ayrshire, and hearing this great feedback from Adam, is testament to how going electric can make a significant difference not just to emissions but to costs and customer approval too.”
